I have followed your pattern. With an H hook, and 5 rounds in, I ended up with a diameter of 3.5 inches. In order for me to get to 4 inches in 5 rounds, I had to go up 2 hook sizes (to size J/10 6.00 mm). I attempted to do the Adult (big) hat, and found that it was only 21 inches around, which is a measurement of an 11 year old in my family. The others are bigger than that. I added more stitches and am attempting to get it to the size I need for the family member that has a head of 23 inches around. Though, you pattern is simple enough to follow, the measurements seems off to me.
Hello Michelle,
Looks like out tension is not same, and like what I've said, the finished projects are smaller than the actual size of the head because most types of the yarns are stretchable.
If its ok may I suggest something? I too have ran into issues at times with diameters so I have learned the easiest way to adjust is by adding or subtracting one hdc at the beginning. If I need it to go up in size a little I start with 9 instead of 8.
Hi! feel free to do of what you think is more comfortable and easiest for you.
Thank you! I have been doing double crochet beanies and they just look sloppy. Half double is so tidy looking, at least mine is!
I stumbled onto this pattern an read a few comments. Maybe yall can help me... I have tryinf to make one of these for some time. But they always look weird or are to small. Can anyone help. How do I get it to look like a stocking hat or beanie whatever they call it nowadays lol.
Can this beanie be converted into a double crochet beanie? I want to make and sell beanies and scarves to my family and friends to make some money for myself.
